Can anyone enter the hypnotic state?Yes, anyone can be hypnotised provided they want to be. No one can be hypnotised against their will. That said, some people should not be hypnotised - people suffering from psychiatric disorders (psychosis) and people under the influence of recreational drugs. It is estimated that about eighty five percent of people find it easy to enter the hypnotic state quite easily. The other fifteen percent need a slightly different approach. Those who have difficulty being hypnotised usually find this is because of fear or nervousness. What does it feel like to enter a hypnotic state? The actual feeling of hypnosis is subjective and even the same person will have a slightly different experience at different times. Most people find their body relaxes and experience a very relaxed yet focused state of mind. You may experience a pleasant feeling of drifting from time to time but you can open your eyes at will any time you wish. Can I get stuck in a trance? No, the most that can happen is you cross over in to a restful sleep that left to your natural devises would awaken in around 20 minutes feeling refreshed. Will you be able to control my mind?Absolutely not. It's a fact that no one can be hypnotied against their will, and even when in the hypnotic state you remain conscious of the therapy on a fundamental level and would reject any suggestions that do not sit well with you. Will I lose consciousness? No - You may not remember everything that was said in the session just like not remembering every detail after watching a film, but you remain fully conscious throughout with the ability to respond to any emergency. Will I tell you something I don't want you to know?No - Even in a deep hypnotic state you are still fully in control of your will power. Are there any side effects?Yes! - most people leave feeling relaxed with a pleasant feeling of physical and mental wellbeing that carries over for some time. A lot of clients also report sleeping deeper and longer after a session. How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions depends on your personal situation, but as a guide: Smoking cessation - 1 in-depth session, Weight Control - between 3 and 5 sessions, Confidence building - around 3 sessions, Public speaking / presenting - around 2 sessions, simple phobias - around 3 session, complex phobias - between 5 and 8 sessions, stress management - around 2 sessions, panic attacks - between 3 and 5 sessions. Will the symptoms return if I stop having treatment?A large part of your treatment will be to learn self hypnosis either on your own or with the help of a CD together with various exercises for you to maintain your improvement permanently. With some clients, for instance weight control, performance enhancement, complex phobias - they find it useful to have a back up session from time to time to re-asses and work to future goals.
